Rock On!

Crank up the tunes?  Are we still talking about golf here?  Do you ever practice while listening to music?  Did you know that listening to music could help improve your golf game?  No really, it’s true.

When you visit any PGA Tour stop, visit the driving range and watch how many of the players have headsets in their ears while swinging away.  A repeatable golf swing relies heavily on tempo.  Each golfer plays to their own tempo.  Look at the different swings of Tiger Woods and Ernie Els.  When you are practicing, a great way to work on your tempo is to listen to music.  The songs beat reverberating in your head.  It turns you into a walking metronome…you know, that small device that is commonly used by musicians to help keep a rhythmic beat.

By listening to your preferred music, you will be instilling that same rhythm into your golf swing.  If you are a fast paced individual, with a quick swing you very likely prefer listening to songs that are more up beat and fast paced.  Vice versa, if you are more at ease, strolling along, you are probably already listening to more mellow music.

Give it try the next time you’re on the range, or even playing a round of golf by yourself (don’t be rude to the other players in your group).  You will clear you mind, put you in a more relaxed state and improve your golf swing.  So crank it up!
