Personal Info

Born in the small town of Jerome, Idaho and raised in the Southeast Idaho town of Pocatello.  At age 4 my father took up the game of golf and I got my first Little Tykes Golf Clubs.  From then on I was hooked.  At age 6 I received my very first golf club, a makeshift Wilson Staff 5-iron that was cut down to fit me.  A year later I got my first putter, an old Wilson Staff Blade similar to a Titleist Bullseye.  At age 9 I received my first junior set of clubs that helped me improve my game so much.   Here I started participating in junior golf clinics and camps during the summers and tagging along with my dad to the golf course at least 3 time a week.

At age 11 my parents divorced and my mom moved back home to Western Montana.  I split time from 6th grade to 8th grade at both places, still playing golf in the summers and playing on the Idaho Junior Golf Tour in 1999 and 2001.  In the Summer of 2002 I won my first tournament the Juniper Hills Junior Club Championship.  After this summer I moved home to Montana for good and began working at King Ranch Golf Course.

I worked at King Ranch for 5 years, throughout high school and after my first year in college at Texas Lutheran University where I played collegiate golf for 1 year.  After finishing at King Ranch I attempted to play collegiate golf once again at Idaho State University in Pocatello where my father and my siblings lived.  Things fell through and Idaho State cut their Men’s Golf Team for budgetary reasons.  After a few months of indecision’s my best friend had me settled on joining the PGA Golf Management Program at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Over my tenure at NMSU I worked for three years at Picacho Hills Country Club on the west mesa just outside of town.  Here I worked full time so I could support my wife and I and continued to play on the NMSU PGM mini-tour.  I graduated in May of 2012 with a Bachelors Degree in Marketing as a PGA member and finished with 7 overall wins on the mini-tour.

Upon Graduation I moved to West Texas to gain some experience at first Bentwood Country Club in San Angelo and then on to Tin Cup Country Club in Merkel just west of Abilene.  Here I landed my first Head Professional position and was able to learn a lot in such a short time.  Unfortunately things did not live up to what they seemed in Merkel and I decided to part ways venturing south the Lake Charles Louisiana in October of 2012 where I became the Head Golf Professional at Gray Plantation Golf Club.

Since before I began working in the golf business I always had a keen eye for how to help people.  I tagged along to my father’s lessons and when we were on the course together or I was caddying for him in a tournament he would always ask me what he was doing wrong or for advice because I knew I was always paying attention.  By the time I was 14 I had a decent knowledge of how to help my dad with everything in his golf swing.

While in highs school I aided my teaching professional I worked for while teaching his summer junior programs and I learned how to interact with young kids and teach them how to not only play golf but enjoy their time on the golf course.  When I got to New Mexico I had a very good foundation on my teaching philosophy and countless hours reviewing tapes and books on different fundamentals of teaching professionals.  By the time I graduated college I had fully developed my teaching philosophy and method.

I love to work with junior golfers.  Being only 25 years old I have a great appreciation for what golf has done for me at such a young age.  It is this love and passion that I want other children to feel and enjoy.

Philosophy:  “Sim-Ductive”.  Even for better players I teach the simplest and most productive way possible.  Of course, this changes with the type or student I am working with because everyone learns and understands things differently.

Method:  I teach every golf differently to suit their goals and their body type.  No one person swings the same.  There are basic fundamentals and that are very similar that we try and re-create.  The most common thing I teach everyone is proper understanding and practice creates the desired outcome.  I use the V1 Golf Academy to help slow things down and compare swings side by side for all my students.  I also use the SAM Putting Lab to help fine-tune my students putting technique.  After each lesson I review and write down notes from the lesson that they need to work on before next time and a practice assignment.  They cannot schedule their next one until the homework is completed.  This gives all my students goals to achieve and makes them strive to be the best golfer they can be.  Because everyone is different I use a variety of swing trainers and teaching aides that do a lot of the same things but in different ways.  One of which is called the Perfect Takeaway, a product that I endorse and helped launch at the 2013 PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Florida.  For more information on the Perfet Takeaway visit their website at www.perfecttakeaway.com.

Experience

I have been in the golf industry for 10 years now and have been actively teaching for 6 years now.  I have worked with countless golfers ranging from new beginners to min-tour players and multiple Division 1 college golfers.

While at New Mexico State University I was the PGA Golf Management Student Association President and helped develop a Player Development Program to help students pass the Player’s Ability Test.  The results showed the pass rate for the PAT at New mexico State rise from 32% to 68% in one semester.

In my first year as a Junior Golf Director in 2011 I helped build a strutured practice and lesson program for high school and college bound golfers to better their skills.  14 golfers participated, 8 of which have gone on to play college golf. the other 6 all actively play on their respective high school teams.  Only 6 of these students where currently on teams when the program began.

Since being new to Lake Charles I have already been an active participant of the Southwest Louisiana Junior Golf Association.  With my help we are integrating golf into the P.E. curriculum’s of a few of the private schools and now into the public school systems.

My main goals for 2013 is to be the Gulf  States PGA Section Teacher of the Year and the Junior Golf Leader for the Gulf States PGA Section.
