It’s New Year Resolution Time!

Well, here we are.  The end of another year is rapidly upon us, which leaves many of us in a place to review the past year and look forward to the upcoming 2013!  Fortunately, we survived the end of the world according to the Mayan calendar…can’t say I was really too worried about that one though.

For me personally, I sit down and write down my New Year’s Resolutions so that I have a reminder of what they are.  I physically write down two different lists, the first my personal resolutions…loose weight, eat healthier, be a better father for my kids and better husband for my amazing wife.  I’m sure a similar list to many of you out there.  The second list I jot down is my golf specific resolution list.  This will typically list things like decrease scoring average 1 shot, improve putting stat, play “x” number of rounds bogey free, etc.  Now I am sure that my list is different than yours, if you even write a list.

With the 2013 golf season starting in just a few days, you might have to wait a bit longer for those of you who live in the northern winter wonderland, but now is a great time to create your Golf Resolutions List!  Take a close look at your game, and think about what goals/achievements you would like to accomplish in the upcoming year.  Break 100?  Break 90?  Become a single digit handicap?  Win your club championship?  Take a golf lesson from a PGA Professional?

By putting this down in ink (yup use a pen, you can’t cheat and erase it later) you will accomplish two great objectives.  First you will provide yourself with a guideline of your golf ambitions.  By periodically reviewing this list throughout the season you will be able to monitor your progress.  Secondly, you are going to hold yourself accountable for your accomplishments.  At the bottom of your list I want you to write down a “reward” for your achievement of reaching your goals.  Maybe you scribe down a new driver, new wedge, or a winter golf trip.  Whatever your reward may be, work your way to earning it!  If you don’t accomplish your entire list of goals, your reward gets pushed off for another year’s resolution list.

Take a few minutes before the end of the year and make your golf resolutions.  I already have my list, and reward.  Now go get yours!
