Do You “Tee It Forward”?

In recent times there has been an effort from the PGA and the USGA with a program named “Tee It Forward.  In my opinion this is a great program for golfers everywhere, and makes an often frustrating sport, more enjoyable.

The concept is simple, you simply move forward a set of tees when playing a round of golf.  Because of changes in equipment and golf ball technology, golfers now have the ability to hit the ball father than even a decade ago.  What this has forced golf courses and course designers to do, is make golf courses longer and longer.  It it not uncommon to now see courses stretching to well over 7000 yards.  Even though golfers have the ability to hit the ball further, the game still remains very difficult.

With “Tee It Forward” golfers are able to hit more lofted clubs into greens, shoot lower scores, speed up the pace of play, and enjoy the game of golf more!  The challenge that is faced, is leaving your ego behind.  Many golfers feel that they need to play the golf course from the maximum distance to “test” their ability.  Why?  Unless you play to a handicap of 8 or less, you have no business playing from the back set of tees.  Make the game more enjoyable for yourself.  Don’t punish yourself or your golf game by playing a longer course than you should.  Wouldn’t it be nice to hit second shots from 145-165 yards on a par 4’s, rather than from 175-195 yards?

I encourage everyone to give “Tee It Forward” a try.  I think that you’ll find that it makes the game much more enjoyable.  It doesn’t mean that you can’t go test yourself from the back tees occasionally.  When you do you’ll probably find that your game has improved because you’ll now have a more positive outlook about the game.
