Personal Info

I grew up in Osceola, Nebraska, a town of about 900 people an hour west of Lincoln. It is deep in the heart of Big Red Country so I am very passionate about my Nebraska Cornhuskers! I have played golf since I was 5 years old when my Grandpa Vernon took me out for the first time! I played all four years in high school, qualifying for the state tournament in 3 of them. I also played football, basketball, and wrestled all through my childhood and into high school so feel free to talk to me about any sport as I am very passionate about all sports, especially my respective teams!

After high school I attended the PGA Golf Management Program at The University of Nebraska-Lincoln. This program provided wonderful training and preparation for my future career in the golf industry. It covered everything from golf course maintenance to management to instruction. It also allowed me to get my PGA bookwork and work experience done while I was in school so I could earn my PGA accreditation as soon as I graduated! I graduated in December of 2010 and was elected to membership in March of 2011.

After graduation I took a job as an Assistant Golf Professional at Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It was a great learning experience in all areas of golf course management. I was able to get management experience while overseeing our outside operations as well as working hand in hand with our Food and Beverage department. There were also many opportunities to learn a lot about tournament operations during our member tournaments as well as outside outings. Our biggest tournament of the year was the Zach Johnson Foundation Classic. It was a Pro-Am put together by Zach Johnson to benefit his foundation that supports under privileged children in the Cedar Rapids area. Zach chose Elmcrest because it was his home course growing up! It was an amazing opportunity to get to work with him each year. I was also able to gain some great relationships with the members and learn what it was like to work at a private facility. I learned really fast that I loved the private sector and wanted to stay in that area of golf due to the opportunity to develop relationships with the members. I also gained tons of experience in golf instruction. I was able to work with many golfers, members and non-members alike. I worked with every skill level from beginning golfers up to some of the best juniors in the state! We also revamped our summer junior golf program to make it more enjoyable for the participants while also improving their skills in all areas of their golf game. We incorporated fitness into the lessons to improve hand eye coordination and improve overall fitness habits. We made it fun for everyone so they didn’t even realize they were doing it! It improved their focus and energy level tremendously so then they were able to learn and retain so much more on the instruction side of the lessons, not to mention the parents loved having their children come home worn out and excited! I was also very fortunate to get a staff agreement with Ping Golf so I was able to learn a lot about fitting golfers for equipment. Getting fitted for your clubs is one of the most underrated parts of buying clubs and yet is the most important! It’s like trying to play basketball with shoes that are 6 sizes too big, it just doesn’t allow you to play your best!

I was fortunate during my time at Elmcrest CC to meet the love of my life. We got engaged after only 11 months and moved to Florida shortly after so she could go to UCF to start nursing school. We are getting married on August 8, 2014 and I can’t wait to officially start our lives together!

I started my current job as an Assistant Golf Professional at The Legacy Club at Alaqua Lakes in November of 2013. It has been great so far and I can’t wait to keep learning more! I have become very involved in the Get Golf Ready program this summer. This program is a new PGA initiative to bring more golfers to the game and make them feel comfortable with going to a course and playing with friends or family. It covers everything from terminology and etiquette to all aspects of actually swinging the club. It has been very successful thus far and I can’t wait to help grow it even more! If you would like to sign up for any of my programs there is a link in my lesson rates section that allows you to see whats available and register for the one you want! I look forward to working with you and please feel free to call or e-mail me with any questions you have!
