Personal Info

Teaching Philosophy-There is no one way to properly swing a golf club. Therefore it is both impossible and unfair to take a person’s swing apart and then attempt to put it back
together.  I believe that it is far more effective to embrace how a person swings and show them how to make it work better for them rather than to force that person to swing a certain way without regard for whether or not it fits their body.

Approach- I begin each lesson with a brief interview to determine what are the student’s expectations and goals.  Next, I have the students hit several shots as they would if they were out to warm up before playing a round of golf.  I tell the student that they are teaching me how they swing the golf club and their shot pattern.  As they continue to hit shots, I am asking questions about the shots trying to discover what is the student’s current level of perfect.  In addition, I take several videos of the student’s swing from a head-on position and from down the line using the Swing Reader Analyzer on my Ipad.  I review the swing with the student making sure that I point their strengths and also their weaknesses.  I, then, illustrate what areas need immediate attention and how we will progress to make sure that all the areas are addressed.

I give the student plenty of opportunities for practice and to ask questions when they feel unsure about an exercise they are practicing.  At the conclusion of the session, I review with the student what was the focus of the lesson and how they should implement it into their practice routine.  We then schedule follow-up lesson(s) to monitor the student’s progress and refer back to the video during future sessions to illustrate their improvements.

Experience

I have competed on various mini-tours including what is now referred to as the Web.com tour, Hooters Tour, Canadian Tour, and Egolf Tarheel Tour to name a few.  I was the first ever freshman golfer to win the ACC Rookie of the Year award as well as the NCAA Phil Mickelson award in 1992 while attending the University of Virginia.  In addition, I served as the Head Golf Coach for Westover Christian Academy from 2004 to 2012.  During my tenure, I guided the team to winning the 2010 and 2011 VACA State Golf Championships and was named the Danville Register and Bee All-Metro Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2012.  In addition, the team achieved 6 winning seasons beginning in 2006.
